  • brief information about what brings you to counselling 

  • any relevant information you choose to share during our work 

I also keep brief session notes, as required by professional standards.

I collect this information so I can: 

  • contact you about appointments 

  • provide counselling safely and ethically 

  • meet professional and legal requirements 

  • keep appropriate records of our work together

Under UK GDPR, I process your data under: 

  • Contract – to provide counselling services 

  • Legitimate interests – to maintain records, ensure safety, and meet professional obligations 

  • Vital interests – if I need to share information to prevent serious harm 

How your information is stored 

Your information is stored securely and is not shared with anyone unless required by law or ethical obligations. This may include: 

  • discussing work anonymously in supervision 

  • sharing information if there is a serious risk of harm 

  • complying with a court order or legal requirement 

I will always aim to discuss this with you first, unless it is unsafe or not possible. 

How long your information is kept 

Counselling records are kept for seven years after our work ends, in line with professional guidance. After this time, they are securely deleted. 

Your rights 

You have the right to: 

  • see the information I hold about you 

  • request corrections 

  • request deletion where appropriate 

  • raise concerns about how your data is used
